One ~ The Bee Gees

One (Dance Version) | The Bee Gees

I was inspired to write this post the other day when this song wouldn't stop playing in my head and I posted it on Facebook in celebration of my wedding week.

The thought occurred to me that I am already feeling that we are one . . . but that piece of paper makes it official :)  Actually, we have the marriage license, it is just not notarized  . . . I guess that makes us "nearly one" by law.

Isn't it strange how a single piece of paper makes a huge difference in status? Like a college diploma hung on the wall makes you more intelligent than one who doesn't have that diploma?

Of course, it isn't the marriage license that makes two people "one" spiritually . . . "The taste of love is sweeter like honey on the vine, like the wind that feeds the fire, two souls become entwined."  Two souls become entwined . . . that is what "being one" means to me.

Someday is here for The Captain and me . . .

Despite the success of the single "One" in the US (where it made the Top 10), the album only peaked at #68 there. In the UK, none of the singles from the album were hits and the album peaked at #29, but sold better in Germany and Switzerland where it made the Top 10.

The single comes from the album "One" . . . the Bee Gees' eighteenth studio album, released in 1989.

One | The Bee Gees
Lyrics

Written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb

I feel my heartbeat,
when you run your fingers through my hair, oh yeah
I can tell you,
I can feel you by my side when you're not there, oh yeah
Just as my life fades to darkness
you you make me see the light.
Show me that my search is over
I pay the price, I pay the price.

Tell you someday, baby you and I should be one, one.
Do it always, brighter than the eye can see, we hide the sun.

The taste of love is sweet, like honey on the vine,
like the wind that feeds the fire, two souls become entwined.
Someday baby you and I should be one, one.

VERSE 2:
So I'm standing on this corner
Tall enough to touch the New York sky, oh yeah
Love is so blind
I just cannot hear or see the world go by, oh yeah
Someone can love so completely
One kiss should break the seal.
Truth can be stranger than fiction
This love is real
This love is real.

Tell you someday Baby, you and I should be one, one.
Do it always, brighter than the eye can see, we hide the sun.

BRIDGE:
Ah we are one, we are one.

VERSE 3:
I will follow
Count on me, I'll never let you down, oh yeah
My devotion
Loving like an ocean I would surely drown, oh yeah
You'll be my only possession
I'll be a slave to you
We hold the power together
Just me and you
Just me and you.

Tell you someday Baby, you and I should be one, one.
Do it always, brighter than the eye can see, we hide the sun.
Tell you someday Baby, you and I should be one, one.

I think somebody might
I go down on my knees
You see love can be blind
It's there under your fear
I know I must be strong
And go into the night
And see all that I want

[You know my life is in your hands,
and every breath you take is planned
and all this love goes on forever.]

Tell you someday Baby, you and I should be one, one.
Do it someday Baby, you and I should be one, one.
Do it someday Baby, you and I should be one, one....

Love songs from 80's movies . . . The Top Ten?

When I found this list, it just didn't seem right to me.  While the songs and the movies listed were commercially popular, I knew there had to be others that were deserving of mention in the top 10.  Sure enough . . . after some thought, the following songs are some I would have listed instead.

Almost Paradise ~ Ann Wilson and Mike Reno (Footloose) . . .
It Must Have Been Love ~ Roxette (Pretty Woman)
I Will Always Love You ~ Whitney Houston (The Bodyguard)
Wind Beneath My Wings ~ Bette Midler (Beaches)
Can You Feel The Love ~ Elton John (The Lion King)

My favorite . . . but then again, Roxette is one of my favorite groups . . .

Behind the Mask . . . Michael Jackson

The song was released by Epic Records on February 21, 2011 as the third single from Michael.

He left his fans tons of never published music that we will enjoy in the coming years.  Although he is gone, he will never be forgotten.  Michael Jackson has always been one of my favorites . . . despite the headlines.

Lyrics

All along I had to talk about it
But like a two edged sword
It cuts you and it stabs me

All along I knew you were a phony girl
You sit behind the mask
And you control your world

You sit around and I watch your face
I try to find the truth, but that's your hiding place
You say you love me, but it's hard to see
'Cause when he's in your arms, you're throwing rocks at me

Who do you love? Is it me with you?
I don't know
Who do you love?
I don't want ya if you can't answer
But you know me

(There is nothing in your eyes)
There is nothing in your eyes
(But that's the way you cry)
But that's the way you cry girl
(Cry girl)

(All is grand, all is bright)
All is grand, all is bright
(You're just studying my mind)

I walk around, I'm suffering in my doom
When I come to you, you're sitting in your room
You sit around in the strangest place
So take off the mask, so I can see your face

Who do you love? Is it me with you?
I don't know
Who do you love?
I don't want ya if you can't answer
I know you

(Heaven must be wary)
Heaven must be wary
(Your smile is scary)
You got me spinnin', girl

(Insincere, empty tears)
Every year, yours are good
(Where's your soul? Where'd it go?)
You got me scared, girl

(Heaven must be wary)
Heaven must be wary
(Your smile is scary)
You know where you've been

(Insincere, empty tears)
Every year, na na na
(Where's your soul? Where did it go?)

I walk around, I'm suffering in my doom
When I come to you, you're sitting in your room
You sit around in the strangest place
So take off the mask, so I can see your face

Who do you love? Is it me with you?
I don't know
Who do you love?
I don't want ya if you can't answer
I know you

Who do you love? Is it me with you?
I don't know
Who do you love?
I don't want ya if you can't answer
I don't know

I don't wanna talk about it
(Let's talk about it)
I don't wanna talk about it
(Let's talk about it)
I don't wanna talk about it
(Let's talk about it)

MTV - The Original VJs

Nina Blackwood, Martha Quinn, Alan Hunter and Mark Goodman, four of the original MTV VJs, have their own blog, appropriately titled "The Original MTV VJs" just in time to join in the celebration of MTV's 30th Anniversary.

They were rock stars in their own right, breaking new ground with the new marketing twist that turned the music industry upside down.  After all, art imitates life . . . didn't video kill the radio star?

Here's an awesome video with some classic moments and great memories . . .
