Mariah Carey - Vision of Love

This song is all about happy memories for me. I was happily married, happy in my career, JR and I were working hard and playing hard taking our monthly mini-vacations, entertaining like crazy and enjoying life to the fullest. Sweet destiny indeed and wow . . . I was a very blessed lady!

Guess you could say this song represents the best time of my life. When I think of love as it should be, this is my vision of love . . . the memories I have of a beautiful life with my Prince Charming whose life ended way too soon. A long awaited love that was my sweet destiny after a very hard time in my young life with so many obstacles.

As I wait for sweet destiny to find me again, feeling like deja vu all over again with obstacles regarding love, this song and the memories it brings restores my faith and hope because of a time when I believed it could and it did.

This song marked the debut of the one of the most beautiful voices of an angel that I have ever heard . . . and the introduction of a beautiful young lady named Mariah Carey who came on the scene and dazzled us with this song and that voice and has become one of our premiere song divas in the pop music world.

Vision of Love
Mariah Carey

Treated me kind
Sweet destiny
Carried me through desperation
To the one that was waiting for me
It took so long
Still I believed
Somehow the one that I needed
Would find me eventually

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
Prayed through the nights
Felt so alone
Suffered from alienation
Carried the weight on my own
Had to be strong
So I believed
And now I know I’ve succeeded
In finding the place I conceived
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given me
I’ve realized a dream
And I visualized
The love that came to be
Feel so alive
I’m so thankful that I’ve received
The answer that heaven has sent down to me
You treated me kind
Sweet destiny
And I’ll be eternally grateful
Holding you so close to me
Prayed through the nights
So faithfully
Knowing the one that I needed
Would find me eventually
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you turned out to be

Madonna . . . I Deserve It

She is one of my favorite musicians . . . if not my favorite.

There is so much to say about Madonna without the tabloid stuff. What inspires me about Madonna aside from her obvious talent is her drive and ambition to do what she set out to do. I've seen the early clips of Madonna arrogantly saying "I wanna be a big star".
She wanted it, she could taste it, she knew it would happen and went for it.

"I Deserve It" is one of my favorite Madonna song even though it is not the high energy music that I love so much from Madonna. It is the mood and the words of the song that I can relate to. There have been times that something good happens and I am in such a deliriously happy mood that I have to listen to this song and it enhances my happiness.

Yeah, I know, I'm a little crazy about music, but my memories are wrapped up in the music and certain moods must reside in certain songs. This is one of them . . .

"I Deserve It"

This guy was meant for me
And I was meant for him
This guy was dreamt for me
And I was dreamt for him

This guy has danced for me
And I have danced for him
This guy has cried for me
And I have cried for him

Many miles, many roads I have traveled
Fallen down on the way
Many hearts, many years have unraveled
Leading up to today

This guy has prayed for me
And I have prayed for him
This guy was made for me
And I was made for him

I have no regrets
There's nothing to forget
All the pain was worth it

Not running from the past
I tried to do what's best
I know that I deserve it

(chorus, repeat)

And I thank you

And I thank you Madonna.
This is an awesome acoustic live version of the song
with Madonna on acoustic guitar . . . one of my favorite videos.

Dead or Alive . . . You Spin Me 'Round

One of my favorite dance songs . . . Here are many versions on You Tube.

There are memories of the times this song was popular back in the 1980's, but this song most reminds me of one of my favorite movies . . . The Wedding Singer with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. I love that movie . . . this song was the perfect beginning . . .

This guy seriously freaks me out for real, but the music is awesome . . .

Dead or Alive is a British New Wave band from Liverpool, England popular in the 1980's best known for their hit, You Spin Me Around (Like A Record).

The band was formed in 1980, in Liverpool, by Pete Burns. Pete had a powerful voice and was encouraged to form a band. He chose some of his friends in the beginning, but the band roster changed quite a few times through the years.

They were signed by Epic records on their label in 1983. Misty Circles was the first single release under the Epic label. The recording produced two club hits, but they failed to hit the charts. Their debut album, Sophisticated Boom Boom, was released in 1984. The album featured their first Top 40 U.K. hit single, That’s the Way (I Like It), a cover of the 70's disco era monster hit originally recorded by KC and the Sunshine Band. The single reached number 22 on the chart and the album reached number 29.

Their second album included the single that went to number one on the U.K. Singles chart, You Spin me Around (Like A Record). In 1986 the group released their third album, Mad, Bad, and Dangerous To Know. The single from the album called, Brand New Lover, hit number 15 in the U.S., and only number 31 in the U. K.

The original band parted ways in 1990. Pete Burns took part in the television show, Celebrity Big Brother in the U.K. In 2006.

Just Feel Better ~ Carlos Santana/Steven Tyler

"Just Feel Better"

(Santana featuring Steven Tyler)

She said I feel stranded
And I can't tell anymore
If I'm coming or I'm going
It's not how I planned it
I've got a key to the door
But it just won't open

And I know, I know, I know
Part of me says let it go
That life happens for a reason
I don't, I don't, I don't
Because it never worked before
But this time, this time

I'm gonna try anything to just feel better
Tell me what to do
You know I can't see through the haze around me
And I do anything to just feel better

And I can't find my way
Girl I need a change
And I do anything to just feel better
Any little thing that just feel better

She said I need you to hold me
I'm a little far from the shore
And I'm afraid of sinking
You're the only one who knows me
And who doesn't ignore
That my soul is weeping

I know, I know, I know
Part of me says let it go
Everything must have a season
Round and round it goes
And every day's the one before
But this time, this time

I'm gonna try anything that just feels better
Tell me what to do
You know I can't see through the haze around me
And I do anything to just feel better

I can't find my way
God I need a change
And I'd do anything to just feel better
Any little thing that just feel better

I'm tired of holding on
To all the things I ought to leave behind, yeah
It's really getting old, and
I think I need a little help this time!

[Guitar solo]

I'm gonna try anything to just feel better
Tell me what to do
You know I can't see through the haze around me
And I do anything to just feel better

And I can't find my way
God I need a change
And I do anything to just feel better
Any little thing that just feel better

A fabulous song by two of the most awesome musicians of our time.

It is one of those songs that will grab you with the music with all its hooks and the amazing way Carlos Santana can make a guitar sing, the singing itself with Steven Tyler's unusual voice and the lyrics themselves.

I can't think of another musician who has taken collaborations with other musicians and put his brand on one song after another that are so diversely different, yet so Carlos Santana.

It occurred to me that in the span of his career, he has changed vocalists on a regular basis, yet once again, the music is always distinctly Santana. The collaborations have produced the best music of his career, in my opinion. Whether it be Steven Tyler, Rob Thomas or Dido . . . each collaborated song is awesome in its own right. This is my favorite of all of them . . . so far.

Maybe it is my favorite because I can so relate to the lyrics. Anyone going through a transition in their life can relate to being lost with that feeling of being suspended in time as if it stands still, yet the world whirling around you as if to be standing in the middle of a carousel where it doesn't move.

A soul that weeps and begs for an answer to stop the torment and make the right choice for their life. Yes . . . I can relate!!

21 Jump Street

Always On Your Side - Sting/Sheryl Crow

Is there some place far away,
Some place where all is clear
Easy to start over
With the ones you hold so dear
Or are you left to wonder,

Always On Your Side
Sheryl Crow and Sting

Is anything ever easy?
Shouldn't it be if it is meant to be?
That is what I've always believed.
And that butterflies are free to fly . . .

My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away

But every now and then you come to mind

Cause you were always waiting to be picked to play the game

But when your name was called, you found a place to hide

When you knew that I was always on your side

Well everything was easy then, so sweet and innocent

But your demons and your angels reappeared

Leavin' all the traces of the man you thought you'd be

Leavin' me with no place left to go from here

Leavin' me so many questions all these years

But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear

Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear

Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally

This isn't how it's really meant to be

No it isn't how it's really meant to be

Well they say that love is in the air, but never is it clear,

How to pull it close and make it stay

Butterflies are free to fly, and so they fly away

And I'm left to carry on and wonder why

Even through it all, I'm always on your side

But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear

Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear

Or are we left to wonder, all alone, eternally

But is this how it's really meant to be

No is it how it's really meant to be

Well if they say that love is in the air, never is it clear

How to pull it close and make it stay

If butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away

Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why

Was it you that kept me wondering through this life

When you know that I was always on your side

Brand New Day . . . Sting

Turn the clock to zero, honey

I'll sell the stock,

We'll spend all the money

We're starting up a brand new day

lyrics from the song

Brand New Day (Murlyn Extended Mix)

How many of you people out there

Been hurt in some kind of love affair

And how many times do you swear

that you'll never love again?

Yeah, never say never . . . especially to saying that you'll never love again . . . then you feel the words of the song . . . "I'm the rhythm in your tune, I'm the sun and you're the moon" . . . and you think OMG love is pain, is bitter and cruel, the devil in your soul . . . but on the other hand you see that "I'm the glove, you're the hand" that fits together so perfectly and you turn the clock to zero and start a brand new day despite the fact that you vowed to never feel that way again.

You have no choice over when it will hit you . . . sometimes it hits you harder than other times. It could come out of nowhere, it could build with time . . . it is such a force that when you find yourself in it you can't decide if you have been blessed or cursed. Turn the clock to zero and start a brand new day. Why not . . . you never know if this time is the right time. Fate and destiny has a way of grabbing you when you least expect it.

This is a very cool version of one of my favorite happy, optimistic songs by Sting, Brand New Day. It describes precisely how I'm feeling in this very pleasant phase I'm going through. No matter how many times I'm knocked down, faith picks me up and I find that crazy smile again.

The mentality of being in love with love . . .
the curse of the hopeless romantic.

What is wrong with turning the clock
to zero and starting up a brand new day?

How many of you people out there

Been hurt in some kind of love affair

And how many times do you swear that you'll never love again?

How many lonely, sleepless nights

How many lies, how many fights

And why would you want to put yourself through all that again?

"Love is pain," I hear you say

Love has a cruel and bitter way

Of paying you back for all the faith you ever had in your brain

How could it be that what you need the most

Can leave you feeling just like a ghost?

You never want to feel so sad and lost again

One day you could be looking

Through an old book in rainy weather

You see a picture of her smiling at you

When you were still together

You could be walking down the street

And who should you chance to meet

But that same old smile that you've been thinking of all day

You can turn the clock to zero, honey

I'll sell the stock, we'll spend all the money

We're starting up a brand new day

Turn the clock all the way back

I wonder if she'll take me back

I'm thinking in a brand new way

Turn the clock to zero, sister

You'll never know how much I missed her

Starting up a brand new day

Turn the clock to zero, boss

The river's wide, we'll swim across

Started up a brand new day

It could happen to you - just like it happened to me

There's simply no immunity - there's no guarantee

I say love's such a force - if you find yourself in it

And sometimes no reflection is there

Baby wait a minute, wait a minute

Wait a minute, wait a minute

Wait a minute, wait a minute

Turn the clock to zero, honey

I'll sell the stock, we'll spend all the money

We're starting up a brand new day

Turn the clock to zero, Mac

I'm begging her to take me back

I'm thinking in a brand new way

Turn the clock to zero, boss

The river's wide, we'll swim across

Started up a brand new day

Turn the clock to zero buddy

Don't wanna be no fuddy duddy

Started up a brand new day

I'm the rhythm in your tune

I'm the sun and you're the moon

I'm a bat and you're the cave

You're the beach and I'm the wave

I’m the plow and you’re the land

You're the glove and I'm the hand

I'm the train and you're the station

I'm a flagpole to your nation - yeah

Stand up all you lovers in the world

Stand up and be counted every boy and every girl

Stand up all you lovers in the world

Starting up a brand new day

I'm the present to your future

You're the wound and I’m the suture

You're the magnet to my pole

I'm the devil in your soul

You're the pupil I'm the teacher

You're the church and I'm the preacher

You're the flower I'm the rain

You're the tunnel I'm the train

Stand up all you lovers in the world

Stand up and be counted every boy and every girl

Stand up all you lovers in the world

Starting up a brand new day

You're the crop to my rotation

You're the sum of my equation

I'm the answer to your question

If you follow my suggestion

We can turn this ship around

We'll go up instead of down

You're the pan and I'm the handle

You're the flame and I'm the candle

Stand up all you lovers in the world

Stand up and be counted every boy and every girl

Stand up all you lovers in the world

We're starting up a brand new day

Strunz and Farah

I've loved the music of this dynamic acoustic guitar duo since the early 90's . . . their music combines the influence and elements of Latin and Middle Eastern music (Jorge Strunz is Costa Rican, while Ardeshir Farah is Iranian). The music is a world-jazz fusion style which offers an interesting blend of music that I never get tired of listening to.

Ari Hest

Ari Hest mini-playlist

They're On To Me

Since I'm such a music freak, I spend lots of time on MySpace cruising for new music. This is where I discovered Ari Hest two years ago . . . he has become one of my favorite singer/songwriters and as a relative newcomer, I expect great things are gonna happen for Ari.

This is an excerpt from his website

A productive musician and prolific songwriter, Ari writes songs every week and tours consistently throughout the year, honing the tunes in front of ever-appreciative audiences. During the two years since his major label debut, Ari has produced two DIY recordings -- 2005's Guilty Hearts EP and 2006's The Green Room Sessions -- for which he produced and recorded his performances on every instrument using Apple's GarageBand software. Still, there was plenty of new material ready for The Break-In. "By the time we began recording for this album, I had enough songs written that I didn't have to write anything in the studio," Ari says of the song selection. "We just had to arrange what was already there."

Modern Talking

Sometimes you up
Sometimes you down
But you feel it in your heart
You can't go wrong

lyrics from the song
TV Makes the Superstar

Modern Talking Playlist

Fans of Europop and dance/pop music will love this "italo-disco" synthesizer-based style of music that was Modern Talking's trademark which made them popular in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South America back in the 80's . . . surprisingly . . . only popular in North American dance clubs here and there.

Modern Talking, a duo from Germany, is one of my favorite groups since dance/pop is my preferred style of music . . . they remind me so much of the Bee Gees and Ace of Base . . . check out my playlist of their music if you also love this style of music . . .

Europop/dance/pop is the style of music I turn to most often . . . my music tastes are extremely diverse and what I listen to changes as my moods change . . . but my love for this type of music makes it my absolute favorite.

One of the things I love most about the internet is the world has become smaller and we can have friends all over the world . . . the universal language of music sometimes helps to bridge a gap between people and shows us that we have much in common even though we are so very different in our language and cultures.

The sharing of the love of music between friends has been something I have really enjoyed . . . I had never heard of this group Modern Talking before one of my friends from Iran asked me what my opinion of this music was. That one question opened up a whole new world of music to me . . . although most of their music is from the 80's, it is fresh and new to me . . . a beautiful discovery from a beautiful person.

Roxette . . . a Swedish pop double act . . . Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle . . . their music is best summed up as extremely catchy, simple hooks and melodies, a blend of pop with a hint of dance features Gessle's pop compositions to Fredriksson's vocals.

The group has been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with two platinum albums - 1988's Look Sharp! (released in the U.S. in 1989) and 1991's Joyride - and two gold singles - "The Look" and "It Must Have Been Love."

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Roxette stood among the top bands in worldwide sales and fame and could command an arena filled with tens of thousands of fans in places as diverse as Stockholm, Mexico City, Paris, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Frankfurt, Rome and Sydney.

LOOK SHARP! . . . released October 1988 won Gessle his first Swedish Grammis award in the category Best Composer. Roxette received two Rockbjörnen Awards: for Best Swedish Album and Best Swedish Group while Fredriksson won her third consecutive Rockbjörnen for Best Swedish Female Artist. . . .

"The Look" . . . a song about a woman "walking like a man, hitting like a hammer." . . . their first single release in the US reached No. 1 on the April 8, 1989, Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for one week. At the end of the year, Billboard named "The Look" one of the 20 biggest Hot 100 singles of the year.

"Dressed for Success" . . . their second single release in the US peaked at Number 14 on the Hot 100.

"Listen to Your Heart" spent a week at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 4, 1989.

"Dangerous" spent two weeks at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in February 1990.

IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE . . . The Single . . .

Touchstone Pictures approached EMI and Roxette about contributing a song to the soundtrack of the upcoming film Pretty Woman starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. Gessle has claimed that "It Must Have Been Love", by then a 2-year-old recording, was chosen because Roxette didn't have time to compose and record a new song while touring through Australia and New Zealand.

The soundtrack went on to be certified three times platinum by the RIAA. Though not the first single released from the soundtrack, "It Must Have Been Love" would prove to be the most successful, spending two weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 beginning in the June 16, 1990, edition, while topping the charts in more than 20 other countries around the world.

The song had staying power on the chart, spending two additional weeks at No. 2 after falling from the top, a total of nine weeks in the Top 10, and then 17 weeks in the Top 40. Billboard named "It Must Have Been Love" the No. 2 Hot 100 single of the year.

The song would prove to be Roxette's most successful single release, peaking at the top of the singles charts in many countries and No. 3 in the United Kingdom, the group's highest chart position there.

MTV was well established and the music world revolved around videos to promote new releases. The way of doing business in the music industry had undergone a drastic change and music lovers everywhere rejoiced.

Being the obsessed music lover that I am, I made tapes of all my favorite videos, cataloged them in a data base and printed the catalog in a book. I still have them although I haven't watched them in years.

The music of Roxette takes me back to the happy and exciting times of the late 1980's and early 1990's . . . we were financially secure enough for me to gamble and embark on a career change . . . and so it began in these times. They were good times although I never worked so hard in my life as I worked my regular job and also worked my new career at the same time. . . . seemed like I was working 24/7 . . . and I loved every minute of it.

Blog Update

Greetings from Sunny Florida where we are experiencing the most beautiful time of the year.

It may seem like I have forgotten my music blog, but that is so far from reality as I have so many ideas but not enough time to do them all. I've been working behind the scenes building up my music playlists at since I have been so disappointed with You Tube.

While I can understand copyrights, royalties and all that, the constant pulling of videos from You Tube is making it impossible to keep up with them all. Seems like the videos showing up on You Tube and freely distributed on the internet would be great exposure for music and enhance sales, especially with older music and groups who otherwise would have gotten lost in the myriad of music and entertainers.

Anyway, I don't have time for looking around to find replacement videos . . . I have tried and it gets more difficult as I add content to the blog. So . . . rather than such a concentration on videos, I have decided to place more emphasis on the music itself and the story behind the music. Of course I will still add the video, but not make myself crazy trying to find new videos after the original is pulled. Nuff said about that!

As I develop my music blog, I have an interest in showcasing new talent . . . but only if I like the music! I'll be updating my presence at MySpace with a stronger emphasis on music since my business plans have changed. Fabulous new music is so easy to find on MySpace . . . helping new entertainers get their name out to music lovers seems like the perfect project for a music lover like me.

It will take some time, since my business plans have changed and I need to get a real job away from the computer.

Just wanted to post a blog update. Visit me at and check out the many playlists I have been working on . . . . . .

Have a fabulous day!!

Gwen Stefani and No Doubt ~ Modern Day New Wave/Punk

No Doubt was founded in 1986 with a ska-pop sound . . . the band's diamond-certified album Tragic Kingdom helped to launch the ska revival of the 1990s, and "Don't Speak", the third single from the album, set a record when it spent sixteen weeks at the number one spot. Tragic Kingdom (1995) propelled them to stardom and sold more than fifteen million copies worldwide, with the singles "Just a Girl", "Spiderwebs", and "Don't Speak". The band's popularity went into decline with Return of Saturn (2000), but Rock Steady (2001) was generally well-received.

The lead singer, Gwen Stefani experienced the bittersweet accolades from the media and fans, driving a wedge between her and the band, much like Blondie. Gwen is today's Blondie . . . she was born October 3, 1969. Gwen recorded her first solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. in 2004. The album contains pop and dance tracks and influence from hip hop and R&B. Its third single "Hollaback Girl" became the first U.S. digital download to exceed sales of one million and "Cool" was one of 2005's most popular radio singles. The Sweet Escape (2006), Stefani's second solo album, was preceded by the single "Wind It Up".

In the media Gwen is known as a fashion trendsetter and regularly graces the covers of fashion and entertainment magazines. She debuted her clothing line L.A.M.B. in 2003 which showcases clothing that she is often seen wearing herself and also features handbags and purses. She released a limited edition, high-end line of dolls called "Love. Angel. Music. Baby. Fashion dolls" in 2006. They were inspired by her multi-platinum album and tour. Each doll reflects Gwen's eclectic onstage distinctive style and personality like her Hollaback Girl to the fashion-forward Harajuku Girls of Tokyo. She also designed and promoted a Harajuku girl-themed camera for Hewlett-Packard. Click here for more information on L.A.M.B.

An inspirational young lady with diversified talents and charisma who has come far since her early days as the lead singer in a garage band writing tearjerker songs about her rocky relationship with the guitar man Tony. In 2002, Stefani wed guitarist Gavin Rossdale, of the rock band Bush . . . their baby boy was born in May 2006.

It is rare for me to feature a song, but Don't Speak is one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time . . .

I always enjoyed Storytellers since I am such a music enthusiast. For me, it is all about the music and I love all of it! Being a once-aspiring singer/songwriter big time wannabe, the roots of a great song is always interesting to me.

When it is one of my favorite songs and singers, it is so much more special. So it goes with this one . . . Gwen Stefani and No Doubt . . . all about the song "Don't Speak" . . . one of my favorite songs of all time.

The lyrics of this song are hitting home for me at this time of my life, as I have reached yet another crossroads and a realization of what is happening in my life. Music lyrics sometimes mimic life and come back to soothe our soul to let us know all will be ok.

Don't Speak ~ The Video

You and me
We used to be together
Every day together always

I really feel
I'm losing my best friend
I can't believe
This could be the end

It looks as though you're letting go
And it it's real,
Well I don't want to know

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me 'cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me 'cause it hurts

Our memories
They can be inviting
But some are altogether
Mighty frightening

As we die, both you and I
With my head in my hands
I sit and cry

It's all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are . . .
You and me
I can see us dying ... are we?

Gwen Stefani is one of my favorite entertainers, singers and fashion icons of all time . . . she rocks . . .

My niece Angie was a pre-teen and totally obsessed with Gwen Stefani at the height of the "Spiderwebs" popularity. I think we heard that song a million times . . . over and over again.

She and her sister Valerie would spend weekends and summers with my husband and I . . . at their ages, it was a good thing we loved music because they were 24/7 with their music. The song "Spiderwebs" reminds me of those times with my girls who were the little girls I never had.

The music of "Tragic Kingdom" represents one of the happiest times of my life . . . the summer of 1995 . . . my last memories of the girls being little girls and camping in the back yard, singing out loud like fools . . .

Lenny Kravitz

Born in New York on May 26, 1964 . . . his mom is Bahamian American actress Roxie Roker, best-known for her role as Helen Willis on the popular television series The Jeffersons and his dad is Ukrainian-Jewish American film producer Sy Kravitz. He grew up in Los Angeles around celebrities and the most famous musicians of the time and taught himself bass, piano, guitar, and drums at an early age.

It was 1989 when he made his debut and took us back to the days reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix and psychedelic music of the 60's and 70's with a hint of 80's Prince . . . and the definite Prince look.

On January 2006 Kravitz participated in absoluttracks a project of the vodka brand Absolut. He was given total freedom to realize a track that reflected his vision of the product, the result was the track "Breathe". Later on this song was re-mixed by other ten musical producers from the eight most important markets of the vodka brand, the traks were only available via internet, in the sites and, where also were wallpapers and videos relating to the subject.

Kravitz appeared in the audience of Madonna's Confessions Tour during numerous shows. He would later join Madonna live on stage for the song I Love New York at one of the Paris gigs. An accomplished songwringer . . . he wrote the song recorded by Madonna "Justify My Love".

He's definitely retro, but you can't define his music in one genre since his music transcends soul, funk, reggae, hard rock, psychedelic, folk, rap, hip hop, techno and ballads. There is no doubt that his musical influences were as varied . . . Prince, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Bob Marley, and the Beatles. He took the varied range of styles and spun it into being a trendsetter in his own right . . . the result is the awesome music of Lenny Kravitz . . . a music chameleon.

Not only has he been known for his music . . . he's had his brush with the tabloid press, making news with his relationships with Lisa Bonet and Nicole Kidman.

I've found a new toy and since I am in a Lenny Kravitz kind of mood tonight, I decided to experiment with this new website with the funky, soulful and awesome music of Lenny Kravitz.

This should work like a jukebox and the music should continue to play even if you venture away from this page, just make sure it stays open.

Punky Ladies of the 80's ~ Martha Davis and The Motels

Martha Davis and The Motels were one of the most successful groups of the 1980's new wave/punk era.

She was the punky lady that was my fashion icon of that time . . . the look was retro vintage . . . sophisticated, in a punky trashy sort of way.

The music is dark with hauntingly sad lyrics led by strong vocals, catchy melodies and awesome hooks . . . this is the music I listened to when I was feeling down and wanted to wallow in it. At the moment, I have no idea who wrote the songs that The Motels recorded, but I assume they went through a time of intense depression and heartbreak . . . most seem to be written by the same person judging by the writing style.

The Motels helped usher in the music video generation and were one the prominent groups on MTV . . . the group, one of my personal favorites . . . currently on the comeback trail (check their website and new song) . . . and the 80's punky rock vixen, Martha Davis, one of the most beautiful and glamourous women of rock . . .

Punky Ladies of the 80's ~ Blondie

Blondie . . . a pioneer in the early American punk rock and New Wave scenes.

Blondie's first two albums were successful in Australia and the United Kingdom, however, Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of a third album in 1978.

Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles and was noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop and reggae, while retaining a basic style as a New Wave band.

Lead singer Deborah Harry achieved a level of celebrity that eclipsed other band members leading to tension within the group and they officially disbanded in 1982 and reformed in 1998, achieving renewed success touring and performing throughout the world over the following years. Blondie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

Debbie Harry is the Punky Lady Queen . . . the guys fell in love with her and the girls tried to look like her . . . and we all loved the music of Blondie! Back in the dying days of disco, we were hungry for the exciting beat and sound that was glamourously reminiscent of disco, but decisively different . . . and new wave/punk was born as the "new sound and attitude of the 80's" that came with many styles and variations as new groups and singers emerged. The glam new wave sound (that is what I call it) is still my preferred style of music of all time and is the sound of the 80's . . . of course, it was the happiest time of my life when I met my future husband, fell in love and got married, so I am a little prejudiced since the music is mixed in my memories of the times.

Michael Jackson . . . King of Pop . . . can he come back?

Without hesitation, I call him the greatest entertainer ever and you can't take the "King of Pop" title away from him . . . because he IS. A little boy grew up before our eyes while amazing and dazzling us with his talent as he entertained. He gave his life to the music. Musically, I grew up on the Jackson Five and Michael Jackson took me into the music video generation . . . and he and his brothers showed me how to dance.

Short Clip about Michael's dancing

The highlight of a visit to Epcot Center at Disney World was to see the groundbreaking Captain EO 3D movie that I wish I could see again. Michael Jackson at his best! I would stand in line for hours and go back to see it again . . . it was THAT good. Somebody bring it back, but this time to the movie theatres!!!!! . . . it was awesome. I found the promotional advertisement that ran on television before they premiered it at the theme parks and a clip from the movie . . . watch them before Disney has them removed from YouTube as they have all the others. Imagine seeing this on an usually large movie screen, awesome sound system and in 3D . . . WOW!!

. . . and a bit of the video . . . watch it before Disney has it removed

Maybe I was the only one who was so happy when I heard that Michael had married Lisa Marie Presley . . . the King of Pop married the King's daughter . . . they could have been awesome together even though the music styles are somewhat different. Could have been the birth of a new style of music, who knows.

My feelings about him personally are so torn and it breaks my heart since he has always given me the impression of being a very honest and sweet person and I have loved him as an entertainer so much. Only he and God know the real truth of what has been accused of him in the past . . . AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MUSIC. I try not to judge another human being, especially one with lots of money and a target for opportunists . . . either way, it is a sad world that we live in.

Take a look back at his amazing talent and remember WHY he has been labeled "The King of Pop" . . . he is one fabulous entertainer. I've compiled quite an array of Michael Jackson performances that convinces me he will come back better than ever because he has the unique talent that surpasses time.

Rumor has it he will be making his United States comeback in Las Vegas . . . other than Cher and Elvis, I can't think of anyone else who could do so much justice to the stages of Las Vegas in a grandiose style with so much star power and entertain with such excitement, sparkle and shine. What a treat! I would be the first in line if I could afford the tickets!

Hopefully we can all rise above his personal problems and get back to the music . . . check out the videos and be reminded . . . I did, and he blew me away again.

Thank you for the decades of entertaining us Michael . . . hopefully there will be more and more to come . . .
