Whitney Houston ~ Heartbreak Hotel

Whitney Houston was laid to rest today and she can now rest in peace.

Heartbreak Hotel is one of my favorite of Whitney's songs.  It was released in December of 1998, the second single from her album, My Love Is Your Love.  The song was written by Carsten Schack, Kenneth Karlin, and Tamara Savage.

Although she did not write the song, I wonder if it was written specifically for her . . . in my research for this post, I could not find the answer to my question.  It could have been titled "Bobby's Song" . . . it certainly reflects how she was feeling about the weasel at that time.

Maybe she fooled her fans, but I don't think so . . .  she willingly allowed him to lead her to "Heartbreak Hotel" . . . true love will do that to you.

Her last interview with Oprah certainly made it clear that he was not "husband of the year" material, while she put up with him and stood by his side for all those years.  It put shivers up my spine as she told the story of his bizarre behavior, spray painting "evil eyes" all over their house.

What made me sad was that you could still see the love for him in her eyes . . . at least she was blessed with a child that she adored and loved so much that resulted from that union.

He couldn't let the family celebrate her life with peace and dignity at her beautiful memorial service . . . no, he had to show up with uninvited guests and cause a scene.  What a loser to not even respect her in death . . . he should have had the good sense to just stay away.  But it did put his name back in the news . . . it is a good thing to be bad these days . . .

Enough of the rant . . . back to the song . . .

From Wikipedia . . .
"Heartbreak Hotel" reached the Top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100 on January 26, 1999 and peaked at number two on March 9 and number one on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs on February 2, and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. It was a hit in several countries worldwide.
The song also received two nominations at the 2000 Grammy AwardsBest R&B Song and Best R&B Performance by a Group or Duo, though it did not win. The video was nominated for Best R&B Video at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards.

Heartbreak Hotel | Whitney Houston
Lyrics

This is a Heartbreak Hotel  This is a heartbreak hotel  This is a heartbreak hotel  This is a heartbreak hotel   You said you'd be here by 9  Instead you took your time  You didn't think to call me, boy  Here I sit, tryin' not to cry  Askin' myself why  You'd do this to me   Since you're not around for me to tell you baby face to face  I'm writin' you this letter, and this is what I have to say   All I really wanted was some of your time  Instead you told me lies when someone else was on your mind  What you do to me, look what you did to me  I thought that you were someone who would do me right  Until you played with me emotions and you made me cry  What you do to me, you take what you did to me   Now I see that you've been doin' wrong  And played me all along  And made a fool of me, baby  You got it all wrong to think that I wouldn't find out  (Uh!)  That you were cheatin' on me baby  How could you do it to me   All I really wanted was someone to care  Instead you told me lies when someone else was on your mind (what you did...)  What you do to me, look what you did to me  I thought that you were someone who would do me right  Until you played with me emotions and you made me cry  What you do to me (why you do it'), you take what you did to me (you didn't have to do it to me, baby)   I ain't gon' take it..... I ain't gon' take it boy

Could I Have This Kiss Forever . . . Whitney Houston and Enrique Iglesias

~ Could I Have This Kiss Forever | Enrique Iglesias/Whitney Houston ~

Just because you were once blessed with good fortune, an abundance of talent, fame, riches, beauty doesn't mean that it will last forever.  Fall from grace happens to all of us every day in one form or another.  Some of us can handle it and rise above it like it never happened.  Some of us can't . . . and continue the downward spiral of life while attempting to get back up.

In my opinion, Whitney Houston died of a broken heart a long time ago . . . we lost her beautiful spirit as a result.  Fans lost her beautiful message through the songs and have missed her so much . . . I am one of them.

While being blessed with so much, she had the misfortune of falling madly in love with the wrong man.  Through the years I've wondered if the successful Whitney would still be around had she fallen in love with the right man . . . her life filled with happiness instead of despair.

When I first heard of her untimely death, it was my thought that she was finally at peace again.

Her new movie is due for release this summer . . . it is my hope that it will be the success that she deserved . . . successful enough to erase all these years of ups and mainly downs so we can remember her as the great talent she was.

This song is one of my favorites and the video is eerily ironic to me today.

 RIP Whitney . . . I've missed you!

From Coast to Coast . . . Modern Talking

One of my favorite groups!

Seems like all of their songs are about love, set against awesome dance beats and rhythms.  The following video is an awesome megamix . . . The Space Mix . . . an excellent compilation of their greatest hits, followed by a video for From Coast to Coast, a personal favorite of mine.

From Coast to Coast
Modern Talking
Lyrics

Oh lady, I'm close to lose you
You're Burning up my life, more and more
Oh Lady, I can't Forget You
I know I can't survive, like before
Oh lady, I'll always miss you
Oh I will swear to you that I love you

Chorus
From coast to coast (from coast to coast)
From East to West (from East to West)
I know for sure (I know for sure)
You are the best (you are the best)
Why does it feel so good with you
Don't leave me here, what can I do?
My world is in your hands, you'll see
I love you till eternity

Oh lady, if this is heaven
I'm not afriad of hell, I'm telling you
Oh lady, my heart is lonely
I know that time will tell, I tell the truth
Oh lady, I'll always miss you
I will swear to you, that I love you

Tu Amor . . . RBD

The lyrics of this song are so
 beautiful and romantic!

"Tu amor" ("Your Love"), written by Diane Warren, is the first single released from RBD's fourth studio and first all-English album, Rebels
The song was released to American radio on September 22, 2006 and became their first single to ever appear on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #65.

The following music video was created by me for the most awesome person in the whole world . . . my love.  The lyrics so capture my love for him :)

One of my all time favorite love songs!

Tu Amor . . . RBD
Lyrics

Mi amor I'm not sure of the right words to say
Maybe these simple words will do best to best explain
What I feel in my heart
What I feel more each day
How to make you see
How to let you know
How to say how to say how I love you so
With words you understand
Words that get right through to your heart
Here's the place to start

Tu amor, I will always be
Tu amor, means the world to me
Estarás siempre en mi corazón
You're the one in my soul
And I live for tu amor, tu amor.

Mi amor love you more with each look in your eyes
Maybe these simple words will do best to best describe
What I feel in my heart
What I'll feel for all time
How to make you see
How to let you know
How to say how to say how I need you so
With words you understand
Words that get through to your soul
Words that let you now

You're the one that
I need in my arms
Believe me these words
I say are words that come straight from my heart
How do I make you believe
Nothing else means as much as what you mean to me

Stop, Look, Listen . . . Toni Braxton / Michael McDonald

It's that time of year to celebrate love . . .

from now until Valentine's Day, I'll be featuring my favorite love songs.

To start off the series . . .

Stop, Look, Listen . . . composed by the song writing team of Thom Bell and Linda Creed in 1971.  The song brought instant success for the up and coming group, The Stylistics.

In the meantime, Motown Records was set to record an album of duets.  They hooked up two of their most successful artists, Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye . . . one of the songs was Stop, Look, Listen, which was only released as a single in the UK, which peaked at #25 on the charts in 1973.

The song was included in Michael McDonald's second album of Motown covered songs . . . a duet with the queen of love songs, Toni Braxton.  Their interpretation of the song is my favorite!

Stop, Look, Listen
Lyrics

You're alone all the time

Does it ever puzzle you

Have you asked why

You seem to fall in love and out again

Do you really ever love

Or just pretend, oh, baby

Why fool yourself

Don't be afraid to help yourself

It's never too late, too late to

Stop, look, yes, listen to your heart

Hear what it's sayin'

Stop, look, listen to your heart

Hear what it's sayin'

Love, oh, love, love

Though you try, you can't hide

All the things you really feel

This time decide

That you will open up, let it in

There's no shame in sharin' love you feel within

So jump right in

Head over heels and fall right in

It's never too late, too late to

Stop, look, listen to your heart

Hear what it's sayin'

Stop, look, oh, listen to your heart

Hear what it's sayin'

Love, love, love

Darlin', darlin', stop and look

(Stop right now and listen to your heart)

Oh, listen to your heart hear what it's sayin'

(Can't you see that it's not too late)

Stop and look

And listen to your heart hear what it's sayin'

Stop and listen to your heart right now

(Stop, look)

(Listen to your heart hear what's it's sayin')

Oh, can't you see that it's not too late

(Stop, look)

(Listen to your heart hear what it's sayin')

Darlin', stop and look

And listen to your heart hear what it's sayin'

Stop, baby

(Stop right now and listen to your heart)

And listen to your heart hear what it's sayin'

(Ooh, ooh, can't you see that it's not too late)

Madonna with Gogol Bordello . . . La Isla Bonita

La Isla Bonita is one of my favorite songs from Madonna.  In my music collection, I must have at least 20 versions of the song . . . some of the remixes are awesome, some not so great.

But I have never seen or heard the song done as the version with Gogol Bordello . . . it is in a class all its own . . . and of course, I love it!  Gypsy style :)

The first video is one that I created, using a studio version edited with concert footage from the Sticky N Sweet concert . . . very festive, good-time music!  The choreography is awesome . . . Madonna never lets me down!
