Endless supply of music in Michael Jackson's vaults

Since I was a kid, Michael Jackson and his amazing entertainment talents have been a major part of my music life. He was there for as long as I remember . . . and he is held up there with The Beatles, The Cars, Duran Duran and Madonna as the most important musical influences to touch my life.

The guy never enjoyed a "normal" life . . . abnormal was his norm . . . something the media never let us forget. I've not been very inspired to write anything about Michael Jackson's death until now . . . finally something positive that will come out of the tragic end to his troubling life. The article regarding Michael's unreleased music follows . . .

The media and what I perceive as money grubbers kept the music and dancing genius of Michael Jackson out of the spotlight. Instead we were treated to the sensationalism of a freak show that grew bigger by the day. At least now Michael can rest in peace and we can enjoy what has been hidden away for way too long . . . new music from the King of Pop . . .

Hopefully this new music will blow us away in the same fashion as "Thriller" . . . allowing the freak show to fade away and for his music genius to shine forever as it should.

RIP Michael, King of Pop, the greatest entertainer ever . . . IMO

NEW YORK – Michael Jackson had a mountain of unreleased recordings in the vault when he died — music that is almost certain to be packaged and repackaged for his fans in the years to come.

The material includes unused tracks from studio sessions of some of Jackson's best albums, as well as more recently recorded songs made with Senegalese R&B singer and producer Akon and Black Eyed Peas frontman

"There are dozens and dozens of songs that did not end up on his albums," said Tommy Mottola, who from 1998 to 2003 was chairman and CEO of Sony Music, which owns the distribution rights to Jackson's music. "People will be hearing a lot of that unreleased material for the first time ever. There's just some genius and brilliance in there."

The releases, Mottola said, "could go on for years and years — even more than Elvis."

The Cars . . . Cruiser

The clip is from The Cars "Shake It Up" Tour . . . performing one of my favorite Cars songs Cruiser, with my favorite musician Ben Orr singing the lead.

This one is from The Cars "Heartbeat City" Tour which was released on VHS in the mid-1980s . . . awesome tour! I just about wore the tape out.

Do you ever pay attention to song lyrics? This song has some quirky and cute lyrics like "glitter bombs that beat the beat" . . . my interpretation is the whirlwind of a glamourous and famous lifestyle. Ric Ocasek is great at writing those way out eclectic lyrics.

I'm easily amused . . .

Cruiser | The Cars

big city noise disappears
sucker punch is in your heart
light is reason light is due
my shape is shapeless in your suit
chrome red eyeballs reflect and roll
simple sun is slowly sinking
roman shoes and pretty hats
glitter bombs that beat the beat
you comb the night 'cause you're a cruiser
and you never get enough
when you're cruising down the street
and you're chasing off the heat
when you're on the moonlight run
floating jets and big vignettes
get the treatment grab a cab
set aside the screaming fish
tell the world why you're so glad
flip the switches pull the plug
you always wait for better news
you need a hit you need a slug
you don't easily get amused

Dido - Sand In My Shoes

~ Sand In My Shoes (Remix) | Dido ~

Warm breezes blowing through my hair, the sound of the birds, the smell of the ocean and long walks at sunrise & sunset . . . this song reminds me of being on a beach vacation, coming home and feeling like I'm still there. Anyone can probably relate to the words of this song and the realization of being back home with the same problems waiting, but seeing them in a different perspective after chilling out.

This remix version of the song Sand In My Shoes is so relaxing . . . like a walk on the beach getting sand in my shoes. The song comes from Dido's album Life For Rent.

Sand In My Shoes | Dido

Two weeks away it feels like the whole world should've changed
But I'm home now
And things still look the same
I think I'll leave it till tomorrow to unpack
Try to forget for one more night
That I'm back in my flat on the road
Where the cars never stop going through the night
To a life where I can watch sunset
I don't have time
I don't have time

I've still got sand in my shoes
And I can't shake the thought of you
I should get on, forget you
But why would I want to
I know we said goodbye
Anything else would've been confused but I wanna see you again

Tomorrow's back to work and down to sanity
should run a bath and then clear up the mess I made before I left here
Try to remind myself that I was happy here
Before I knew that I could get on the plane and fly away
From the road where the cars never stop going through the night
To a life where I can watch sunset
And take my time
Take all our time

I wanna see you again
Two weeks away, all it takes to change and turn me around, I've fallen
I walked away and never said that I wanted to see again

[Chorus x2]

I wanna see you again
I wanna see you again

He's one of my favorite musicians that I discovered years ago cruising around MySpace. I'm still waiting for him to come to Florida . . . he plays small clubs in intimate settings, perfect for his acoustic sound . . . it must be a treat to see him in person.

This is a series of videos from an internet concert, live at Deep Rock Drive.

The Cars ~ Just What I Needed ~ 1978 The Midnight Special

Just What I Needed is one of my favorite songs ever . . . and Benjamin Orr, OMG my favorite man ever ever ever, the most beautiful voice ever . . . with those eyes and black leather pants.

Having been to hundreds of concerts in my lifetime, The Cars are my favorite concert band . . . they sounded as good in concert as in their studio recordings. I'll write about my favorite concert tour on another post . . . the Door to Door tour.

The Cars on The Midnight Special in 1978 must have marked one of their first television appearances since back in the day there were not many television shows that featured live rock and roll bands.

This is a classic performance and Ben never looked so gorgeous . . .

Easy As Life ~ Tina Turner

All I have to do is to pretend I never knew him
On those very rare occasions when he steals into my heart
Better to have lost him when the ties were barely binding

lyrics from the song

Easy As Life . . . from Aida

performed by Tina Turner

Easy as Life | Tina Turner
from Elton John and Tim Burton's Aida

This is the moment when the gods expect me
To beg for help but I won't even try
I want nothing in this world but myself to protect me
But I won't lie down, roll over and die
All I have to do is to forget how much I love him
All I have to do is put my longing to one side
Tell myself that love's an ever-changing situation
Passion would have cooled and all the magic would have died
It's easy, it's easy

All I have to do is to pretend I never knew him
On those very rare occasions when he steals into my heart
Better to have lost him when the ties were barely binding
Better the contempt of the familiar cannot start
It's easy, It's easy

Until I think about him as he was when I last touched him
And how he would have been were I to be with him today
Those very rare occasions don't let up they keep on coming
All I ever wanted and I'm throwing it away
It's easy, it's easy as life

But then I see the faces of a worn, defeated people
A father and a nation who won't let a coward run
Is this how the gods reward the faithful through the ages ?
Forcing us to prove the hardest things we've done
Are easy
So easy

And though I'll think about him 'til the earth draws in around me
And though I choose to leave him for another kind of love
This is no denial, no betrayal but redemption
Redeemed in my own eyes and in the pantheon above
It's easy
It's easy as life
It's easy as life
It's easy as life

This song speaks to me in so many ways and got me thinking in a particular direction . . . regrets in life. I'm the type of adventurous person who has few regrets since I always have done exactly what I've wanted to do. Even those adventures that proved to be utter failures are so precious to me.

Then there are regrets of the romantic kind that remained relatively unexplored for one reason or another . . . fate and destiny . . . for some reason, my choices were as they were and the circumstances were as they were at different times of my life. All of this jibberish probably means nothing to anyone but me except to say that at different stages of my life, I often think
what if . . . we've all been to the Land of What If at one point or another in our lives, it is human nature.

Once again, a song moves me along a certain thought process . . . "
Is this how the gods reward the faithful through the ages? Forcing us to prove the hardest things we've done . . . "

Wish I Could Fly ~ Roxette

"The sound of his voice plays over and over in my head. It happens when his phone call wakes me from a beautiful dream . . . can't get him off my mind. "Wish I Could Fly" is how I'm feeling . . . the song fits my mood . . . I wake up in a dream."

Excerpt from one of my blogs

Halfway through the night
I wake up in a dream
Echoes in my head
Make every whisper turn into a scream

lyrics from the song
Wish I Could Fly
by Roxette

~ Wish I Could Fly | Roxette ~

This song takes me back to a particular moment in time . . . recent time that I sometimes can't get out of my head. As I listened to one of my favorite playlists of the awesome music of Roxette, one of my favorite groups of all time, it took me back to that morning.

Isn't it awesome how a song can take us back to a moment in time with such clarity? Maybe it is just me since I am such a music freak . . .

"Make every whisper turn into a scream" . . . a long lost love from the past comes back to my life, we talk on the phone and go back in time, falling in love all over again as time goes on . . . the anticipation of his touch made me want to scream . . . I can so relate to the words of this song!

If you love the group Roxette as much as I do, click on the tag "Roxette" for more posts featuring their songs . . . they are one of my favorites from the 80's.

"Wish I Could Fly"

Halfway through the night
I wake up in a dream
Echoes in my head
Make every whisper turn into a scream

I dreamed I could fly
Out in the blue
Over this town
Following you
Over the trees
Subways and cars
I'd try to find out
Who you really are

In the middle of the night
Cool sweatin' in my bed
Got the windows open wide
Thinkin' about all the things you said

I wish I could fly
Out in the blue
Over this town
Following you
I'd fly over rooftops
The great boulevards
To try to find out
Who you really are
Who you really are

I wish I could fly now
Wish I could fly now
Wish I could fly now

I wish I could fly
Around and around
Over this town
The dirt on the ground
I'd follow your course
Of doors left ajar
To try to find out
Who you really are
To try to find out
Who you really are

Strange Magic ~ ELO

Jeff Lynne has to be one of the most talented entertainers and songwriters of our time. Electric Light Orchestra aka ELO was one of my first concerts when I was in my late teens or early twenties and they were just starting out. They were the opening act for the Edgar Winter Group. It was one of the best concerts I ever went to . . . back in the day it didn't get wild out in the crowd, an outstanding time to be a music lover and enjoy a concert without a cherry bomb flying by. Actually, I had vaguely heard of them and was blown away by the awesome and unusual sound that is distinctly ELO and the writing style of Jeff Lynne.

It was such an awesome way to make a musical discovery that is still with me today . . . and music and my love of music . . . the way it has soothed my soul through the seasons of my life and how a song becomes part of a memory or a time in my life . . .

One of my favorite songs of all time by one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Jeff Lynne still has the magic . . . the first video is from a fairly recent concert. It is the mark of an excellent musician who can sound awesome live and make a song that was popular decades ago sound better than back in the day . . . without studio magic.

The Traveling Wilburys ~ The End of the Line

. . . they didn't stay together very long, but OMG were they awesome. Almost every song was a good one, but they could not go wrong since the group comprised of some of the best musicians of our time who decided to get together and make some kick ass music. In my opinion, the blending of musical influences from Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison was one of the best collaborations ever. The only musician I'm not too crazy about is Bob Dylan . . . for some reason I never liked his music . . . too whiny or something.

I am featuring the song The End of the Line which reminds me of my life as I sit at a crossroads, knowing that everything is going to be ok, better than ever and feeling so optimistic about my future . . . no matter what happens. That is a good place to be. And that is what I am thankful for today . . . realizing that I am at a good place in life. Old music can still affect me in the present!

This is such a happy song, only sad by the fact that Roy Orbison died before the video was made, but the guys included him in the video by putting his framed picture and guitar in an empty chair and periodically the camera flashes to it.

For me, the music of the Traveling Wilburys represents a very happy time in my life, therefore, the music makes me happy and takes me back to those happy feelings and memories when I listen to it.

The Traveling Wilburys

Well its all right, riding around in the breeze
Well its all right, if you live the life you please
Well its all right, doing the best you can
Well its all right, as long as you lend a hand

You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring
Waiting for someone to tell you everything
Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring
Maybe a diamond ring

(chorus 2)
Well its all right, even if they say you're wrong
Well its all right, sometimes you gotta be strong
Well its all right, as long as you got somewhere to lay
Well its all right, everyday is judgement day

Maybe somewhere down the road aways
You'll think of me, and wonder where I am these days
Maybe somewhere down the road when somebody plays
Purple haze

(chorus 3)
Well its all right, even when push comes to shove
Well its all right, if you got someone to love
Well its all right, everything'll work out fine
Well its all right, were going to the end of the line

Don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive
Im just glad to be here, happy to be alive
It don't matter if you're by my side
I'm satisfied

(chorus 4)
Well its all right, even if you're old and grey
Well its all right, you still got something to say
Well its all right, remember to live and let live
Well its all right, the best you can do is forgive

(chorus 5)
Well its all right, riding around in the breeze
Well its all right, if you live the life you please
Well its all right, even if the sun don't shine
Well its all right, we're going to the end of the line

I'm Still Breathing - Toni Braxton

~ I'm Still Breathing | Toni Braxton ~

This is one of those songs that I can listen to over and over again and never get tired of it . . . one of the most awesome songs of all time . . . I'm Still Breathing . . . Toni Braxton is one of those singers for me . . . her music is awesome.

I'm Still Breathing is from the album "The Heat" released in April 2000. As usual, my favorite songs are the B-sides . . . this song was never released as a single.

I dedicate it to all you arrogant dudes and dudettes who think that your woman or man will crumble and die without you . . . tears dry, hearts heal and we go on . . .

There were times in my life where the situation was a painful struggle, I'm not just talking about love or relationships, but the things that happen in life to really upset us. We deal with it as individuals, every one of us in different ways, but in the end when the tears have dried, we have learned another one of life's painful lessons . . . we pick up the pieces and keep going . . . still breathing.

Did you think my life would end that day

That you walked out when you broke my heart

Did you think I couldn't make it through

Ooh, without you

Did you think you'd stop my world with goodbye, oh no

Did you think I'd crumble inside

Not me, I'm still breathing

And this heart of mine is still beating

I, I'm not feeling any pain

No baby, not me, I'm still breathing

This old heart of mine is still beating

The tears I cried have dried

You are gone and I survived

I'm still breathing

There were times when it took all my strength

To just get though, yeah, through another day

There were so many nights I thought I was gonna die

Without you

But the tears I cried somehow made me strong, so strong

Did you think I couldn't go on

You tried to cut me down, cut me down baby

But look who's still around, hey oh

Without you

Did you think you'd stop my world with goodbye, no baby

Did you think I'd crumble, just crumble inside

The tears I cried have dried

You are gone and I survived

I'm still breathing

Elton John - Whispers

"With renewed creativity after 1988's Reg Strikes Back, Elton John and Bernie Taupin sought out to create a cohesive album that had maintained a consistent theme. They decided to pay tribute to the R&B sound of the 1960s and 1970s who inspired them as youths. Bernie would listen to 60s soul songs and use those songs from the past to inspire new lyrics for their album. He would then write down which artists or songs influenced him. Elton would then use Bernie's guide to write a soul song that sometimes ventured away from the original source of inspiration. Many of the songs have a somewhat clear influence while others contain a mixture of various soul influences.

The songs "Whispers" and "Blue Avenue" were released as singles in Continental Europe. "Whispers" reached #11 in France whilst "Blue Avenue" vaguely touched the Top 75 in the Netherlands.

Sleeping With The Past received lukewarm reviews when the album was released in 1989. However, long time fans of Elton John loved the album and deem it to be one of his best from the 1980s. Despite the critical judgment of the album, it became his first platinum album in 11 years and spawned his first solo #1 hit in the UK."

Source: Wikipedia

Whispers is one of my favorite Elton John songs, along with many others from the era of the late 80's and early 90's . . . in my opinion, Sleeping With The Past was one of his best albums and I still enjoy listening to it.

For me, it is timeless.

Elton John | Whispers Lyrics

Music by Elton John

Lyrics by Bernie Taupin

Available on the album Sleeping With The Past

Look at me twice with wildcat eyes

Promise me everything except a blue night

Shudder like ice in cut crystal glass

Melt in embraces of crazy eyed past

And whisper, whisper, whispering whispers

Tantamount to a lie with lingering breath

Walking fingers run, hungry scratches left

Dull chimes ringing like an empty voice

A distant smile framed, her lips are soft and moist

With whispers, whispers, whispering whispers

And whisper in a rhythm your lies

Keep comfort for others

Hurt me with the night

Whisper like cold winds close to the bone

Save heaven for lovers, leave me alone

With your whispers, whispers, whispering whispers

Just an update . . .

My computer got a nasty virus and I'm still in the process of fixing things. I have no sound at the moment and can't listen to music on my computer!

I'll be back as soon as I get my computer problems straighted out!

Rock on . . .
