Nelly Furtado ~ The Grass Is Green

I am a believer
But as i was standing in line
Somebody took my place
Yes, i'm a believer, never mind what they say
I got so tired along the way

lyrics from the song
The Grass Is Green | Nelly Furtado

This is an updated post . . . a video blog is now included . . .

For my German friends . . .

The Grass Is Green is one of my favorite Nelly Furtado songs, even though it is a "B-side" song on her least popular album . . . seems like my taste in music differs from society.

This song is from her second album, Folklore (2003), which was not considered the commercial success as her debut album Whoa Nelly (2000) that came out a winner and produced the Grammy-award winning I'm Like a Bird and Loose (2006) which spun out several hit singles.

The lyrics of this song are melancholy in nature, co-written by Nelly Furtado. She says the song "plays around with the idea of wanting what you can't have, or wanting what's on the other side, something you dream of. And then you finally touch it, but, oh, no! It's too late; it's changed.

There are also themes of deception and mistrust, but I prefer to express that kind of world-weariness with a light touch. The music has an understated hip-hop
thing going on; the groove just chugs along, with simple instrumentation."

It is one of those songs that I think anyone can relate to . . . I can.
Isn't there something in all of our lives that we wish we could do over again?

The Grass Is Green is one of my favorite "drive" songs . . . I love to play it loud when I'm driving with the air conditioner on and singing loud ;-)
It is my happy/sad song . . . so it fits any mood.

Lyrics
The Grass Is Green
Nelly Furtado

Oh, i once had something
Something that was so good
Better than the last thing i touched
Then I turned right around on that something
And figured i didn't like that much

Oh yeah, the grass is green
But can you tell me, can you feel it, i just wanna feel it
Oh yeah, the grass is green
But i think i stained my jeans and now everybody knows thah i been in it

I am a believer
But as i was standing
In line, somebody took my place
Yes, i'm a believer, never mind what they say
I got so tired along the way

Oh yeah, the grass is green
But can you tell me, can you feel it, i just wanna feel it
Oh yeah, the grass is green
But i think i stained my jeans and now everybody knows thah i been in it

I've got a skeleton that's deeper than any closet
And a bomb that i will drop on it
But you opened up to me
'Til i could only see the beauty in your dishonesty

Oh yeah, the grass is green
But can you tell me, can you feel it, you just wanna feel it
Oh yeah the grass is green
But it think i stained my jeans and now, baby, you can tell that i been in it

Oh yeah, the grass is green but it's not what it seems cause when you think
You want it you just need it
Forget just what you need
The clock is ticking and this life is a train, man, i think you're on it
But it's what you wanted, and what you needed
It's what you wanted, and what you needed
Or is it what i needed and what you wanted

It is certainly interesting for me to read that post. Thanks for it. I like such themes and everything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read a bit more soon.
