Landslide - Fleetwood Mac

~ Landslide Remix | Stevie Nicks ~

Landslide was written by Stevie Nicks and originally performed by Fleetwood Mac. It was first featured on the band's 1975 album Fleetwood Mac.

Music is what I turn to when I want to think and back in the day Fleetwood Mac music is like having an old friend around. Landslide is one of my favorite songs of all time and as I listened to the words, I realized that is how I am feeling and the emotions going on inside of me. And oh so scared of the changes.

My mind wandered to another time in my life when I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert . . . they were touring with the Eagles and it was one of the best concerts I ever went to. Happy days . . . a long time ago!

I've often wondered what was going on in Stevie Nicks' mind when she wrote this song . . . and today I found the answer . . .

Nicks: "My Dad did have something to do with it, but he absolutely thinks that he was the whole complete reason it was ever written.

I guess it was about September 1974, I was home at my Dad and Mom's house in Phoenix, and my father said, 'You know, you really put a lot of time into this [her singing career], maybe you should give this six more months, and if you want to go back to school, we'll pay for it. Basically you can do whatever you want and we'll pay for it - I have wonderful parents, and I went, 'cool, I can do that.'

Lindsey and I went up to Aspen, and we went to somebody's incredible house, and they had a piano, and I had my guitar with me, and I went into their living room, looking out over the incredible Aspen skyway, and I wrote "Landslide." Three months later, Mick Fleetwood called on New Year's Eve 1974 and asked us to join Fleetwood Mac.

So it was three months, I still had three more months to go to beat my six month goal that my dad gave me."

Although it wasn't released as a single, the quality of the song has endured the test of time and has gone on to be covered by Smashing Pumpkins, Tori Amos, Dixie Chicks . . . to name a few. I'm sure many more will follow. Landslide is one of those timeless songs that will be reborn as new music lovers and musicians emerge through time.

The version of the song loaded in the player is my favorite . . . an awesome Stevie Nicks remix.

Fleetwood Mac ~ Landslide

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, I've been afraid of changing
cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down
