Dido (1999 to 2008)

Dido is one of my favorite musicians . . . this is an update of an older blog post that was totally destroyed by YouTube videos that didn't exist anymore.

Bare with me as I update other blog posts with similar problems . . .

Dido's music became like an old friend after my husband passed away. Those times are a bit of a blur as I mainly sat in my darkened bedroom as days turned into nights which is basically how I realized that time was passing, as it felt like it stood still.

I can't really remember exactly how I discovered Dido's music, but I remember hearing Eminem's Stan, which contains portions of "Thank You" . . . and I immediately fell in love with her voice, the catchy melody and the clever lyrics and had to know who this singer was and if she had other recordings.

Dido's music touched my heart with the clever lyrics about life with the simple, catchy tunes . . . the in-between kind of music that soothed my soul at the time . . . not too hard, not too soft.

One song in particular touched me in a way that helped me through the grief of losing my husband . . . it is a song about a friend helping a friend get herself together and move on after experiencing the death of a loved one. The words haunt me, yet comfort me like an old friend. A couple of months ago, I met a widower in Bloggerville who was having a rough time dealing with the death of his wife and I was able to share the story of this song with him. The gift of music keeps giving . . .

"See The Sun"
Lyrics

I'm comin' 'round to open the blinds
You can't hide here any longer
My God you need to rinse those puffy eyes
You can't last here any longer

And yes they'll ask you where you've been
And you'll have to tell them again and again

And you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day
Well I promise you you'll see the sun again
And you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness
And I promise you you'll see the sun again

Come on take my hand
We're going for a walk, I know you can
You can wear anything as long as it's not black
Please don't mourn forever
She's not coming back

And yes they'll ask you where you've been
And you'll have to tell them again and again

And you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day
Well I promise you you'll see the sun again
And you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness
And I promise you you'll see the sun again
And I promise you you'll see the sun again

Do you remember telling me you found the sweetest thing of all
You said one day this was worth dying for
So be thankful you knew her at all
But it's no more

And you probably don't want to hear tomorrow's another day
Well I promise you you'll see the sun again
And you're asking me why pain's the only way to happiness
And I promise you you'll see the sun again
And I promise you you'll see the sun again
And I promise you you'll see the sun again
And I promise you you'll see the sun again
I promise you you'll see the sun again

See the sun again
See the sun again
See the sun again
See the sun again
